Dragon's Blood Ink
Moon Phase: 3rd in Cancer (Enters Leo @ 1614 EST)
Planet: Jupiter

NOTE: Dragon's blood resin is not soluble in water. However, it is soluble in a high proof alcohol, so use an alcohol base when making magical inks. It is recommended to use isopropyl alcohol, which is 91% alcohol by volume. Isopropyl rubbing alcohol, 70% alcohol by volume, can also be used, but the dragon's blood resin will take longer to dissolve. Both varieties are available at your local pharmacy. Alcohol is also a preservative, so this ink (and future ones) may be stored at room temperature.
Dragon's Blood Ink 2 tbs. powdered dragon's blood resin
1 cup isopropyl alcohol
Place the powdered resin in the bottom of a one-pint canning jar. Top off with the alcohol and cover with the lid. Shake the jar once a day for up to one week. Strain out and discard the resin by placing a paper towel or coffee filter inside a mesh strainer, which is placed over a clean container. At this point you have dragon's blood ink. Store the finished ink in a dark amber glass bottle with a screw-on lid.

On the year's first full moon, also called the Cold Moon and Wolf Moon, take time to reflect on the magic and medicine of the wolf. A popular animal ally with Witches and magic users, the wolf is a pathfinder, leader, and teacher. The wolf has an incredible sense of family, but also independence. The wolf encourages the teacher in us to share our knowledge. Perform a spell to tap your inner wisdom. Whether sharing your knowledge with circle or coven mates or teaching a formal class, calling on the wolf will give you the strength to walk your individual magical path and help others find theirs.
Set up your altar with white candles and a representation (small statue, photo) of the wolf. As the full moon rises, face the moon and call upon the wolf's magic. When ready, repeat the spell below three times.

Gaining Confidence

"Don't be turned off by pre-written spells. In fact, reading them will help you collect ideas on how to use rhyme and/or structure and how spells are closed. If you need to change a spell to better suit your needs, don't feel guilty. Changing spells will build your confidence for writing new ones.
"Start off by keeping it simple. If the spell is too long to remember, recite it from a written document. If you are writing it by hand into you Book of Shadows, don't forget to include colour. Make use of different coloured pens to match the energy you want to raise or attract. For a love spell, use a red pen. For a healing spell, maybe use blue.
"Remember to record all aspect to your magical work in your BOS. Your BOS (or D[isk]OS, if you're totally techno-Pagan) is not only a record of your ritual work, it's a reflective learning tool to give you inspiration and confidence for your next round of spells. Assess what went well and what parts of the ritual can be improved. This makes your path an ongoing learning journey. Tailor-made spells and rituals are intensely personal because they are imbued with your specific intent and energy.
